Alpha - Omega

Evollution Alpha - OmegaThis series addresses the human impact on Mother Nature and explores the idea of a human apocalypse. Alpha represents nature, whereas Omega symbolizes ‘the end’, respectively destruction (through humans). The viewer is confronted with a dystopian vision of the possibly near future and transported into a world that is the result of war, pollution and a wasteful use of natural resources. The series explores possible consequences of human-caused destruction, driven by greed and an excessive desire to accumulate material goods and wealth. Through my paintings, I strive to provoke a change of thinking and to invite the viewer to reconsider how our actions affect our environment and the world we live in.

Evolution

Alpha-Omega

Evolution
The first painting of the series ‘Evolution Alpha – Omega’ portrays the fictional evolution of the human head. Thousands of years of pollution, environmental destruction and war resulted in a genetic transformation of the human organism in order to withstand an unfavorable environment.

The Great Collapse
Self-portrait; The beautiful, yet deceiving, sunset directly contrasts with the deserted landscape. It creates a false sense of idyll, when in reality human life without gas masks is not possible anymore.

The Legacy of (In)humanity
We often don’t appreciate the gravity of a situation, until we run the risk of losing what is most important to us – our children. This painting addresses human dominance over nature and explores possible consequences of this imbalance, symbolized by the Omega sign on the girl’s armband. The innocent child in this painting is left with the post-apocalyptic Legacy of (In)Humanity, depending on the oxygen supply of the last plant on earth.

Hidden Unborn Of The Next Evolution
The woman in this painting is about to give birth to a child. The fetus, however, is somewhat genetically modified, as it is not possible anymore to naturally breath the massively polluted air. The human organism needed to adapt to those unfavorable conditions in order to survive. A new era of mankind is the result. Environmental degradation such as the pollution of our oceans, the exploitation of natural resources and the clearing of woodlands and forests forced our bodies to enter a new stage of evolution. Greed, hunger for power and indifference concerning our environment and planet come at a price.

The Last Stand
This painting depicts the fight for the last plant on earth. The woman hiding in the hole broke the glass cover to behold and even touch the flower, willing to sacrifice the last non-human life on earth for this fleeting moment of sensation.
